QuickBooks Unable To Display Accountant’s Changes

QuickBooks Accountants edition, incepted by Intuit, for the accountants and bookkeepers to access the company file and work on it at the same time as their client’s. This edition is much more advanced than other QuickBooks version like QuickBooks Pro and Premier, with professional features integrated within the software.

The file ending with .QBY extension is an accountant change file that basically consists of changes to be exported made by the accountant within the company file. The client of the user can import the same changes till the time there are no restrictions made against the Accountant’s Copy.

If the restrictions are made user will be faced with the error along with following message:

“Error: QuickBooks is unable to display the accountant’s changes”

While the process of import and export of changes through Accountant’s Copy file is going on, user might face the error stating –

“QuickBooks is unable to display the accountant’s changes, please contact Intuit technical support for more help”

In case the changes are being exported from remote locale, then it is recommended to first copy the changes locally and then move forward with export process.

Resolution of Unable to Display Accountant’s Changes in QuickBooks

Considering the complexity of the problem, Intuit has provided 5 basic resolution for the issue. These resolutions should be followed in the pattern they are showcased below for best and fastest solution and recovery of the software. The resolutions mentioned are:

Solution 1:

Ensure that the version of Accountant’s edition is upgraded to latest version in sync with the operating system and updated with latest update patches.

Solution 2:

Generally the default web browser of QuickBooks software is Internet Explorer. Temporary files stored with the web browser like Internet Explorer can also cause this error to crop. User needs to delete them for which steps are illustrated below:

  1. Open the browser of Internet Explorer.
  2. Navigate to the main menu bar and locate Tools / Gear option. In case the option of tool is not visible, user should press on ‘Alt’ key on the keyboard.
  3. Now click on the tab labeled ‘Internet Options’.
  4. Under the General option select the tab labeled Delete.
  5. Next to the field called ‘Temporary Internet Files’ check the box of Delete.

Solution 3:

There are many cases wherein Special Characters do tend to create issues, especially in the case of Chart of Accounts.

  • Special characteristics include following signs
    • (<) – Less than
    • (>) – Greater than
    • (&) – Ampersand
    • (‘) – Apostrophe
    • (“) – Quotation mark

Solution 4:

If the above three solutions do not resolve the issue, then the next step is to convert the file again with extension – .qbx file and again type in the changes made. For this to work steps are listed below:

  1. Re-open the original .QBX file to create a new .QBA File.
    1. From the File menu, choose Open or Restore Company.
    2. Select Convert an Accountant’s Copy Transfer File and select Next.
    3. Select the .QBX file and select Open.
    4. Choose where you want to save the file
    5. Note: Select a location that is local and different from location of the original .QBA file.
  2. Re-enter the changes to the new Accountant’s Copy (.QBA).
  3. Export the Accountant’s Changes.

 Solution 5:

The last resolution is to transfer and import the journal entries. This solution however will only work if the changes and transactions recorded within the software is through journal entries.
